You wouldn’t leave your water filter unchanged, so why wouldn’t you change your air filter? Indoor air pollution is among the top five environmental health risks and is best prevented by controlling or eliminating any sources of pollutants. Coleman Heating offers filter replacement services to buildings in the Greater Vancouver area.
What are filters for?
People often purchase air cleaners to increase their indoor air quality. Research has shown that indoor air can be up to two to five times more polluted than outdoor air, due to the particles that are not able to properly ventilate indoors.
The main advantage of having an HVAC air filter as opposed to a portable filter is the ability for the HVAC filter to clean all the air that passes through your entire home through the ventilation system.
Your filter may seem like a small part of your HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) system, but it is one of the most important components. Your central air system draws air in from the interior of your building, for either heating or cooling purposes, and then forces the air out through your duct and ventilation system after it’s been heated or cooled.
Indoor air is trapped air, and much of it is composed of a mixture of human skin particles, fabric particles, pet dander, microscopic insect droppings, smoke, pollen and any other variety of pollutants.
Your HVAC filter provides a barrier between the immediate air intake and the moving components of your central air system. Particles drawn into your central air system are caught by the air filter before passing through the ducts, preventing damage to your HVAC system and cleaning the air before it is cycled back into your home.
How often do filters need to be changed?
Most HVAC central air filters should be changed once a month. At Coleman Heating, we use Honeywell filters that need replacement every 3-12 months, depending on the model. We also offer the re-usable and eco-friendly Honeywell F300 Electronic Air Cleaner, which uses a filter cell that simply needs to be washed off every 6-12 months. Our Honeywell filters capture and deactivate a minimum of 97% of airborne particles.
Changing your air filter periodically boosts your energy efficiency by keeping your HVAC system clean and extending its service life. It also allows cleaner air into your home, bringing you ultimate comfort and peace of mind.
